Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania have somewhat similar economies. When it comes to job creation we notice similar trends in the three countries. According to an East Africa Job market report by Data Fintech, in September 2017, Kenya created the highest number of Jobs. 1, 191 Jobs were created, a 22.20% drop from August 2017 where 1,531 jobs were created. Tanzania created 252 Jobs while Uganda created 276 jobs in September 2017.

Interesting to note are the similarities in the job sectors that created jobs in all three countries. In Uganda, project or programme management created the highest number of jobs in September 2017 at 79 jobs. Accounting and Auditing came second having created 27 jobs within the same period. In Tanzania, Accounting and Auditing led having created 32 jobs. IT and telecommunications came in second creating 24 jobs. In both countries there seems to be a demand for professionals in Accounting and Auditing.

Turning to the Kenyan market, it looks like the efforts being made by the government to create and drive the youth towards farming and agriculture are paying off. Farming and Agriculture jobs rebounded from six months low to create 26 jobs in September 2017, despite the drought being experienced in the country. Office jobs still lead in job creation however, with Sales and Business Development category creating 154 jobs within the same period.

The study has been realized by Data Fintech, based on data collected on various online classified platforms in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
